THE HISTORY OF BUTTERMILK
Buttermilk Dance Academy originated in Kidsgrove in 1975 with classes being held at the Methodist Church Hall. As time went on, the school continued to grow and it became obvious that we needed our own premises. After quite a big refurbishment, Buttermilk Dance Academy was born above the Co-op in Butt Lane in 1984. We had 3 studios and introduced many new classes including Tea Dances in the afternoon, Body Popping, Callanetics. Line Dancing and Yoga.
Each year we produced our annual show at the Mitchell Memorial Theatre which usually took place in May. Examination sessions were held in November and we finished the year with a Christmas show which was performed in our studio.
In late 1998 we moved out of this building and returned to Kidsgrove Methodist Church for weekday classes and Kidsgrove Scouts for our Saturdays. But it didn't take long for us to feel the need for our own premises again. By the end of 2000, we ended our search and picked up the keys to the building we have today (which was previously a bank). This then was the start of a 6 month conversion to turn it into a Dance Studio. During this period we also started to use the Repertory Theatre for our shows and also started our classes in the Werrington area
